Abuse of alcohol is a major and rising problem in Western Australia:
Latest survey data for Western Australia show that, regarding persons 14+ years old, 39% reported they had recently drank alcohol at levels that placed them at risk of harm in the short term (accidents and injuries); 11% had reported drinking alcohol at levels that placed them at risk for harm in the long term (developing alcohol-related diseases from regular and long-term drinking).
According to a Perth Now article, binge drinking in WA among teens is high. Teen girls, 17 years of age, are the worst group for binge drinking, with a high percentage of these girls consuming alcohol in dangerously high levels — even more so than boys in the same age group. Another Perth Now research-backed article quotes the Executive Director of the WA Drug and Alcohol Office, who says, “WA has an ingrained culture that encourages drinking alcohol to excess and unfortunately both men and women continue to drink unacceptably high levels of alcohol.”
The use of illicit drugs can often occur with the abuse of alcohol. Western Australia’s illicit drug use is slightly higher than the national average. According to the 2007 National Drug Strategy Household Survey, a little more than 16% (about 1 out of 6 people) reported recently using any illicit drug. When not used for medical purposes, the following drugs are considered illicit: pain-killers/analgesics, tranquilisers/sleeping pills, steroids, barbiturates, meth/amphetamine, and other opiates/opioids. Also included in illicit drugs are: cocaine, hallucinogens, ecstasy, ketamine, GHB, methadone or buprenorphine, marijuana, inhalants, and heroin. Illicit drug use was highest among the age group of 20-29 year olds. After alcohol use, the four most frequently used drugs were, across all age groups (14 years old and above): marijuana, then meth / amphetamine, followed closely by ecstasy, and then pain-killers/analgesics. Use of all of these drugs was higher in WA compared to the national percentages (except for pain-killers/analgesics, which was the same).
Help is Available: Drug and Alcohol Rehab Western Australia and Beyond
You can look for alcohol and drug rehab in Western Australia. If you find that your local drug and alcohol rehab services don’t fit your needs and meet your expectations, please check out the information about our luxury rehabilitation centre on our website. DARA Drug and Alcohol Rehab is a premier alcohol rehabilitation centre. We have helped people from all walks of life change their lives and recover from alcohol abuse and alcoholism. We can also provide an intervention service for a loved one, including in Australia. If needed, we have detox facilities available here in Thailand through our partnering hospital, Bangkok Hospital.
DARA is extremely affordable for the average consumer, and the geographic separation from the stress and triggers of home provides the time and focus for recovery to take hold.
Coming to Thailand may seem like a radical way to deal with your problem, but in fact, many clients who would be unable to afford luxury drug and alcohol rehab at home are able to take advantage of the DARAs superior clinical care and amenities. In addition to DARAs first-rate treatment and resort-like settings, the geographic distance from home can be of extreme value. Being separated from home and social pressures, as well as personal triggers, is an important strategy during the active treatment phase of residential care. A trigger is something an individual associates with using alcohol or other drugs, including people, places, a certain time of the day, or certain situations and emotional states. DARA offers you a luxury residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation option that also provides essential time to focus on recovery while also having a physical distance from many of these triggers.
If you choose to come to DARA, getting to Bangkok isn’t difficult. Many international flights arrive daily at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. You’ll also need to make a connecting flight from Bangkok to Trat via Bangkok Airways. Trat is located southeast of Bangkok along the eastern seaboard. Upon arrival in Trat, DARA clients are initially transported to our partnering hospital Bangkok Hospital Trat — a JCI-accredited private hospital — for a medical check-up and overnight stay. You will be evaluated by specialists at the hospital to determine if you require observation and evaluation for more than a 24-hour period. Some detoxing individuals may only need medication on an outpatient basis, and DARAs licensed staff will manage this process. When you are ready to leave the hospital, you will be transported by car to either DARA Koh Chang or DARA Chanthaburi.
Upon arrival at your preferred DARA facility, you will be welcomed by DARAs staff and oriented to some logistics regarding our program and your new surroundings. The rest of this first day and evening is spent settling into your villa or room and relaxing in the luxurious, stunning surroundings that will be your home during your residential treatment stay. You’ll be ready to join in the recovery program the following day.
